What are Smritis?
Smriti is a memory in its simplest form.
Guruji has given a nice example here which goes like this -
If you thought, "Today, I would like to meet my friend", That's a smriti you've created.
So even while you're working, it's subconsciously going on somewhere inside your head, that "Let's quickly finish this work and go and meet our friend."
That wish becomes a smriti and will keep on acting in your life.
Another example is -
Like if someone was a sitar player in their last life. So even in this life they would be inclined towards playing a sitar. Similarly, if someone was a good swimmer, then even in this life they would have the talent for swimming, and they won't fear water as well.
Let's say if in previous life, someone died by drowning. Then even in this life they would fear water. This would be expressed as a phobia in their life.
Our Smritis are stored in our chitt - which is 1 of the five core elements of consciousness. Atman, Buddhi, Chitt, Vritti, Mann.
In Pashu yoni (animal species) we experience/undergo our karma, this is what has been taught in the shashtras. As we've lived all kinds of lives as animal before. We have the still have the animalistic tendencies within us. And we often get to see those tendencies in people of extreme rage, sadness, lust, etc.
Most of us have the self-control to never act on it, some do lose that self-control depending on their karm, smritis, external forces, or to be more specific external paranormal forces.
Almost all, like 99% of our health problems come from our Smritis be it mental or physical, only sickle cell anemia is genetic other than that all other problems come from our Smritis. They are first seen in our sukshma sharir and then it's effects are then transferred in our sthula sharir, which is physical body.
Our smriti's travel with us from one birth to another. As we take another birth, the same smriti's will compel us to do the things based on our karm. And the same kind of atmosphere will keep on being created around us.
So here's something interesting to know is that we take birth again and again because of our smritis, and our birth is decided based on the smritis that we've carried.
Now, you may think that we take birth based on our karm, and you'd be right. So let's understand the relationship between karm and smritis. They both are interrelated to one another. Our karm are our actions, but our smritis are the thoughts that make us first think of that action.
Let's say you carried the smritis of becoming a runner, so You'd be born in a family where you'd have the genetics of running, you'd have those kinds of athletic genetics. You'd also love to run from a young age, so you'd develop a body that is fit for running. Then you may probably find a running coach or something similar that will help you in that goal. So the surrounding environment would compel you to run.
This is an over simplified example, in real life you'd have hundreds of thousand of smritis that would also distract you from running. This is why most people are so distracted in their life, or they struggle a lot to achieve something. So struggle will always be there, it's a part of being in this world.
As our smritis are spread across each and every cell of our body and also because we keep creating more and more smritis, and they keep acting on us, making us do all kinds of things birth after birth. And they don't go away for ages, we take so many births, it becomes very hard to get rid of it.
This is why a Sankalp to babaji works, he is the one who helps you destroy your smritis with your prayers and devotion.
And to prove that smritis are the real cause of our problem, we can see that when people take the sankalp of their family members. So for example, I take a Sankalp for my family member who keeps of having a migraine, I may start to feel the same kinds of headaches, for some time as the smritis would get destroyed by your prayers and Sankalp.
What is a DNA?
Hari Har, welcome to the channel
If you've watched any videos from karauli Shankar, you'd have noticed the word being used called DNA. So today I would like to talk about what is a DNA and how it works in karauli Dhaam. So the first and foremost thing you need to understand is that the word DNA is used, but it doesn't actually mean DNA, yes this one in a literal sense. The word DNA is used just because it is easier to understand for most of the people. As almost all of us know what a DNA is in this day and age.
So what DNA means is simply a group of family of your immediate family. So let's say you're forming a group, then it would consist of you, your mother and father, your wife and children. If you have your brothers, they can also be included in this group. So this is the basic DNA.
Now, you may ask, why is this even needed in the first place? So to explain this, first we need to understand how a family tree works. As you'd know, all of us long family tree, from thousands and thousand of years ago in some way shape or form our each family has continued to keep going forward.
When you think about it all of us have hundreds of thousands of ancestors. And this is where the problem begins. The real problem is that when our immediate ancestors die, like grandmother, grandfather, their brothers and sisters, and so on, We in sanatan dharm do all their kriya karm(use english term here). So that they can continue on their journey further according to their karmas.
But here are a few prblems, 1st is that after doing all the kriya karm we can't actually verify that they have moved on with their further journey. The 2nd problem is that with so many ancestors with whom we are connected we don't know if our ancestors have done the kriya karm of their ancestors properly or not? There is no way to verify it as well. Let's say, some way you're connected to some of your family member that you don't even know about, and that person dies or something and their kriya karm is not done properly, so they've not moved on in their journey and they are stuck in suksma sharir. And they you won't do much for them because either you think you've already done all the kriya karm so its done and dusted, or like in the second example you have no idea about them. And let me tell you, most of us think that all of us are doing good, but that's not the case, we have hundreds of thousand of they ancestors who have their effects on us without us even realizing it.
So before going any further I would Like to explain to you what smritis are and how they work so that you can really understand what I'm talking about.
So because they are connected too you through your DNA, like you literally have some similar DNA, they start to enjoy their lives through you, and you start to have similar smritis or memories as them. and when you start to have similar smritis as someone other than you, then where are you really in your own body? Is what you're think actually your thoughts or someone elses? are your perspectives truly yours or the one who's smritis are making you think a certain way?
Not only that even your ancestors, health issues get transfered to you, so for example if they had cancer they there's a high chance that even you'd get cancer out of nowhere even when you're living a healthy and active life. If they had a smriti of drinking or smoking, you'd too feel inclided to smoke and drink. and the same can be said about all kinds of things like mental issues, a big one is lust, thinking patterns. This can be the case for their good smritis as well, So let's say the dominant smritis are the good ones, like working hard, taking care of people, praying to God, etc then you'd see those effects as well.
I would also like to point out that as I said there are hundreds of thousands of such smiritis in each and every individual. which are not their own and are dictating their lives. and usually none of them are aligned, they are all trying to do different things, some are stronger than others, so you'd see the stronger smritis more prominantly than others, but they are there nonetheless. So you're being pulled in thousands of different directions mentally and spiritually.
One really crazy thing I learnt is until and unless you're ancestors are not properly liberated even whatever mantra jaap or meditaions you do don't really give you any positive results.
So to explain this to you in an easy way, imagine you're driving a vehicle, let's say a big car, which is your body and your mind. You think that you're the one who is driving this car, but in really you're just a passenger. and the car is filled with hundreds and thousands of people who are taking turns driving it. you think you're in total control of this car but you're not.
It's just different smritis driving this body of yours, abusing it physically and mentally because it's not actually their car, it's yours. you're the one who's taking the damage they don't have a body.
This is why doing a 1 day hawan is super important in your life, the purpose of this hawan is first to liberate your ancestors from you and your DNA. so that your ancestors can finally go ahead on their journey based on their karmas. This is why when you first come in to do a hawan you have to create a DNA. A group of people from your immidiate family like your mother, father, wife, husband, and children. So when you complete the hawan process the benefits of that hawan can be shared among all the members of that DNA. That's why I've said in an example that even if you're family member lives halfway across the earth they can still feel the difference. if they are kept in the same DNA group.
And the hawan also purifys you so that you can actually then connect with God.
And from my own experience, I can say that their is a night and day difference in my life after doing the 1 day hawan. Just while doing the hawan you can start seeing some differences. But, You may not notice the effects of the hawan at a 100% right from the next day. it can take a few days. for me I can say it almost took 2-3 months. Like one unbeliveable thing is that I use to feel like I'm always me, but after a few days after the hawan process I actually felt like I'm truly awake, Like I'm me. It's hard to explain it all in words. Like, I was a very negative person too but, now I'm very positive, happy and at peace.
What are Smritis?
Smriti, in its simplest form, is a memory. For example, if you think, "Today, I would like to meet my friend," that thought is a smriti you have created. Even while you’re busy working, there might be a subconscious nudge saying, "Let’s quickly finish this work and go meet our friend." This wish becomes a smriti that continues to influence your actions.
This is why you should be careful about what you'd like to make a smriti of.
Smritis and Past Life Influences
-
Reincarnational Tendencies:
If someone was a sitar player in a past life, they might feel an inherent inclination to play the sitar in this life. Similarly, if a person was an excellent swimmer previously, they could naturally possess the talent for swimming and even have a fearless attitude toward water. Conversely, if someone died by drowning in a previous life, they might develop a fear of water—manifesting as a phobia. -
Storage in Consciousness:
Our smritis are stored in our chitt, one of the five core elements of consciousness (the others being Atman, Buddhi, Vritti, and Mann).
The Role of Smritis in Our Lives
-
Karma and Animalistic Tendencies:
In the animal realm (Pashu Yoni), we experience karma as described in the shastras. Having lived various lives as animals, we still retain certain animalistic tendencies. This residual influence often explains why some people exhibit strong, primal behaviors. -
Emotional Extremes and Self-Control:
As humans, we have the capacity to experience emotions in their extreme forms—extreme anger, joy, or sadness. Most of us, however, exercise self-control and do not act impulsively on these feelings. Yet, some individuals may lose control, influenced by their karma, smritis, external forces, or even paranormal influences. -
Health Implications:
It is suggested that nearly 99% of our health problems arise from our smritis. Apart from conditions like sickle cell anemia, which are genetic, most issues can be traced back to the impact of our smritis on our overall well-being.
Smritis, Karma, and the Cycle of Birth
-
Transgenerational Influence:
Our smritis travel with us from one birth to the next. With each new life, these smritis compel us to act in ways aligned with our karma, creating similar life circumstances or environments. -
Interrelationship Between Karma and Smriti:
While it’s common to think that we take birth based solely on our karma (our actions), smritis—the thoughts that initiate those actions—play an equally vital role. They set the stage for our actions by forming the desires and inclinations we follow. -
An Illustrative Example:
Consider someone who carries the smriti of becoming a runner:- They might be born into a family with a genetic predisposition for athleticism.
- Early on, they develop a love for running and naturally build a body fit for it.
- The environment further reinforces this tendency by providing access to a coach or a supportive community.
In reality, life is more complex, and competing smritis might distract from one particular goal. This interplay is one reason why many people struggle or get sidetracked in their pursuits.
This is also one of the reasons why Guruji says to no take opposite sankalps as 2 opposing smritis will fight inside you, and you won't see any changes in yourself. So it's important to understand this concept. -
Accumulation Over Lifetimes:
Since our smritis are distributed across every cell in our body and continue to be generated with each experience, they build up over many lifetimes. This cumulative effect makes it challenging to completely eliminate them.
The Role of Sankalp in Dissolving Smritis
A sankalp (a firm resolution or vow) to Babaji is believed to help dissolve these lingering smritis through dedicated prayers and devotion. An interesting observation supporting this idea is that when people take a sankalp on behalf of their family members—say, for a relative who suffers from migraines—they might temporarily experience similar headaches themselves as the smritis are being broken down by the power of the sankalp.
In summary, smritis are the foundational memories that shape our desires, actions, and even our life circumstances. They connect our past experiences—sometimes even from previous lives—with our present actions, intertwining with our karma to influence the very fabric of our existence.
Hari Har, welcome to the channel
If you’ve watched any videos by Karauli Shankar, you might have noticed the frequent use of the term “DNA.” Today, I’d like to explain what “DNA” means in the context of Karauli Dhaam and how it works.
What Does “DNA” Mean Here?
First, let’s clarify one important point. When we talk about “DNA” here, we’re not referring to the biological molecule that carries genetic information. Instead, it’s a metaphor used to represent your immediate family group. Think of it like a spiritual family cluster that includes:
-
You
-
Your Parents
-
Your Spouse
-
Your Children
-
Your Siblings and Close Family Members
This concept helps us understand how our lives are interconnected with our family, not just physically but also spiritually.
Why Is This Family Connection Important?
In Sanatan Dharma (the eternal way of life), we believe that our ancestors’ energies continue to influence us even after they pass away. When someone from our family leaves their body, we perform sacred rituals called kriya karm to help them move on to the next phase of their spiritual journey.
- Kriya Karm: These are traditional Hindu rituals performed to ensure the soul finds peace and continues its spiritual evolution.
However, two major challenges often arise:
-
No Verification: After completing these rituals, we cannot be entirely sure that the soul has been liberated.
-
Unperformed Rituals: Not every ancestor might have received the necessary kriya karm, either because we didn’t know them or their lineage lost track of these practices. To put it into perspective, Let's say 20 generations ago, someone got lost and was never found again. So that person's kriya karm rituals were never done. This leaves their souls in a state called suksma sharir (subtle body).
- Suksma Sharir: Think of this as the non-physical form of the soul that lingers if the journey remains incomplete.
Understanding Smritis: The Memories That Shape Our Lives
Now, to understand why our ancestors’ unresolved journeys affect us, we need to talk about smritis.
- Smriti simply means memory. In the simplest form, it’s any thought that stays with you. For example, if you think, "I want to meet my friend today," that thought becomes a smriti.
Even if you get busy with work, the thought will continue running in the background. It may influence your behavior, making you rush through your tasks just to meet your friend.
But it doesn’t stop there. Smritis are not just from this life. They travel with us from one birth to another. Our experiences, thoughts, and actions from previous lives leave imprints in the form of smritis, which follow us into our next birth.
-
Example:
-
If someone was a sitar player in a previous life, they might feel naturally inclined toward music in this life.
-
On the other hand, if someone died by drowning, they may have a deep fear of water in their next life, manifesting as a phobia.
-
These impressions are stored in a part of our consciousness called chitt.
The Five Core Elements of Consciousness
According to Sanatan Dharma, our consciousness has five primary elements:
-
Atman: The soul, our true self.
-
Buddhi: Our intellect, which allows us to think rationally.
-
Chitt: The storage of all our memories (smritis).
-
Vritti: Our tendencies and mental patterns.
-
Mann: The mind, which constantly processes thoughts and emotions.
Animalistic Tendencies in Humans
The Shastras (ancient scriptures) teach us that we’ve taken birth in countless forms before becoming human. Through pashu yoni (animal species), we undergo various experiences and exhaust our karmas. However, remnants of those experiences stay with us as smritis.
This explains why certain animalistic tendencies like extreme rage, jealousy, or fear sometimes surface in humans. While we often control these emotions, they can overpower us if influenced by past-life smritis or external forces.
Health and Smritis
Believe it or not, 99% of our health issues are due to smritis. While genetic conditions like sickle cell anemia are exceptions, most diseases originate from unresolved karmas and smritis.
- Example: If an ancestor had chronic migraines and their kriya karm was incomplete, that unresolved suffering could manifest as migraines in their descendants.
Smritis and Karma: An Interwoven Cycle
You might wonder whether it’s our karma or our smritis that determine our lives. The truth is, they are deeply interconnected.
-
Karma refers to our actions, while
-
Smritis are the memories that drive those actions.
For instance, if someone carries the smritis of being a runner, they will be born into a family with athletic genes, naturally gravitate toward running, and find opportunities like coaches or mentors that push them in that direction.
However, because we possess countless smritis, not all of them align. This is why people often feel distracted or face obstacles in their goals.
How Hawan Helps Destroy Smritis
The beautiful part is that our smritis are not permanent. Through the grace of divine energy, we can destroy them. This is where the hawan at Karauli Dhaam comes into play.
-
A 1-day hawan liberates not only our ancestors but also purifies us by burning away negative smritis.
-
It’s like lifting a heavy burden from your soul. Once the smritis are removed, you experience clarity and freedom.
Sankalp (a heartfelt prayer or intention) plays a major role here. When you take a Sankalp for yourself or a loved one, it activates the destruction of negative smritis. Many people even report feeling temporary discomfort as the smritis clear away, but it’s part of the healing process.
My Personal Experience
Before my hawan, I often felt like I wasn’t in full control of my own life. I was constantly distracted and overwhelmed. After performing the hawan, I noticed a gradual shift. Within a couple of months, I felt lighter, more positive, and truly at peace.
The experience was profound. It was as if I had woken up from a state of unconsciousness. I could finally feel like me.
Final Thoughts
-
DNA (in this context): Your spiritual family group.
-
Kriya Karm: Rituals to liberate ancestors.
-
Suksma Sharir: Subtle body of unresolved souls.
-
Smritis: Memories and impressions from past lives.
-
Hawan: A sacred fire ritual to purify and liberate.
-
Sankalp: A powerful prayer to seek divine help.
By understanding and addressing your smritis, you can reclaim control over your life and connect more deeply with God.
Thank you for watching, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Hari Har!
